In Memory of Robert Taylor

In Memory of Robert Taylor *
It is with great love that we remember our Atlas family member, Robert Taylor, our beloved Staff and Student Program Supervisor, who unexpectedly passed away on April 11, 2021 due to sudden physical complications. We will miss him deeply, as will the students. Robert was an incredibly warm, generous person and touched more lives than he knew. He was with Atlas from its inception and was everyone's rock. He prided himself on his mutual respect for and understanding of the students. In times like this, we must, as Robert would succinctly say, “overstand” each other and our grieving processes. Robert's passing has left a huge void in our hearts.

Autism Awareness vs Acceptance
Neurodiversity is not just a conversation topic! Help build a community that welcomes Autistics into your world, into your and your children’s friendships, into your neighborhood gatherings, into your workplace, places of worship, schools and playgrounds!
1. Awareness means you know it exists
Acceptance means you connect personally
and learn more
2. Awareness means you can identify it
Acceptance means you talk to people
and gain understanding, compassion,
and sensitivity
3. Awareness means you know something is
happening
Acceptance means you offer help and
support without judgement
4. Awareness means you cope with it, deal
with it, tolerate it
Acceptance means you embrace it, grow
from it, and build relationships with people
who have it, not only those who love
someone with it!
Awareness is not enough, acceptance is
the next step towards a truly
inclusive and community driven society!

Autism is characterized in many different ways and every individual presents differently.
Autism "Profiles"
are not permanent; growth and development occur even through adulthood!
Autism Does Not
affect a person's ability to feel emotions but rather the way in which it may be expressed.
Community Awareness & Acceptance
is key to bridging relationships with individuals and their families living with Autism and any other developmental differences.
Stimming (Repetitive Movements & Vocalizations)
are important coping mechanisms and should not be taken away or considered taboo - if anything help shape the stims to fit the environment or give time before stressful or intense situations to give someone some reprieve! Believe it or not, you likely are a stimmer too!
